Balochistan: 168 Forcibly Disappeared, 67 Killed in April 2025

In April 2025, a total of 168 individuals were reportedly abducted by the security forces and intelligence agencies across Balochistan. Of these, 112 remain missing, 42 were later released, while 13 were killed, one was shift to jail. Alongside the disappearances, 67 individuals were reported killed during the month. A significant number of these killings were allegedly carried out by the state, through methods such as fake encounters, custodial killings, and other forms of extrajudicial violence.

Enforced Disappearances

Among the 168 abductions documented in April, 164 were cases of first-time abductions, whereas 4 individuals were abducted for the second time. The majority of the abductions, 108 cases, took place during house raids, 53 individuals were picked up from public places, including bazaars and streets, 4 were abducted from check posts, and 3 were taken after being summoned to military camps.

The Frontier Corps (FC) was responsible for 92 of the abductions, followed by intelligence agencies with 44 cases, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) with 31, and death squads in one instance.

The professional background of the abducted individuals varied. While the occupations of 90 individuals could not be verified, students emerged as the most targeted group, with 50 cases. Other victims included five labourers, five drivers, three shopkeepers, and one each from professions such as Levies constable, electrician, poet, trader, and fisherman. The data suggests a concerning focus on educated and working-class individuals, especially youth.

In April 2024, Kech district reported the highest number of enforced disappearances with 50 cases, followed by Quetta with 22 and Gwadar with 20. Dera Bugti recorded 13 cases, while both Mastung and Awaran reported 12 each. Panjgur saw 9 cases, Barkhan 8, and Karachi 5. Smaller numbers were also reported from Musakhel, Kachhi (3 each), Chagai, Hub, Nushki, Khuzdar (2 each), and Surab, Washuk, and Kharan with 1 case each—bringing the total to 168 reported abductions in just one month.
