HRCB demands judicial inquiry into Mr Hafeezullah extrajudicial execution

The HRCB strongly condemns the extrajudicial killing of Hafeez Ullah and dumping his body by the military. The discovery of the previously missing Hafeez’s dead body is very concerning for the families of thousands of other Balochistan’s missing persons.

According to the details, a body was unearthed due to heavy rains in a desolated area of Dalbandin, district Chagai. Hafeezullah’s family also went to the site and identified the body from his belongings. Hafeez Ullah, was a farmer, forcibly disappeared by an army officer, Major Naveed on August 30, 2016. The family also accused the officer of demanding twelve million rupees in return of Hafeezullah. The family paid 6.8 million after selling properties and borrowed money from their relatives. In 2019, the Pakistan army issued a statement saying that the officer was trialed for his corruption and collecting ransom money from the family of Hafeez Ullah.

Despite the money paid by the family and the trial of the Major, the victim remained disappeared.

We demand an urgent and impartial judicial inquiry into Mr. Hafeez’s case and trial of all responsibles of the incident as per law. We call upon government to end impunity of military forces in Balochistan and take measurements for the safe release of all victims of enforced disappearances from the illegal custody of army and intelligence agencies.

Human Rights Council of Balochistan (Hakkpaan) is a non-profit and non-partisan human rights group based in Balochistan and Sweden. It collects reports from Balochistan, a region Pakistan government does not allow any media and HR group to visit and report. Human rights violations in Balochistan is not a new phenomenon, but it got its worst levels after the Military coup de tat of Pakistan in 1999. Thousands of Baloch have been reported missing, hundreds killed in fake encounters and so-called kill and dump policy of the military. HRCB collects the data from Balochistan itself, through its network of volunteers and supporters, organizes and reports them to the human rights mechanisms of the world.
